7:00pm Workshop- A Journey through India: Intro to India Dance and floor painting.
Fee: $10 for Ragamala Theater ticket purchases/ $20 all others.
This event will take place in Anacon Hall.
In the first half of this hands-on workshop, students are introduced to Bharatanatyam, a classical dance form from southern India. Beginning with the ancient myth of how Indian dance was created, this informative and interactive session includes the tradtional salutation, basic postures, rhythmic and gestual technique, and the four aspects of expressive dance. In the second portion of the workshop, students learn about Kolam, an ancient Indian folk art form in which rice flour is pniched onto the floor to create geometric patterns. After hearing about the traditions associated with this art form and learning a few basic patterns, students have the opportunity to create their own kolams.
